We are excited to announce that Gareth has now joined our team and, not only will he be stepping into Hannah’s Sports Injury and Deep Tissue Massage shoes while she is on maternity leave, will be offering a range of new treatments.
About Gareth
Gareth gained his degree in Sports Therapy from Worcester University and is an approved member of The Society of Sports Therapists.
Trained primarily in musculoskeletal conditions, Gareth can create treatment and exercise plans specific for the individual, comprehensive injury assessments, alleviate any pain issues and also perform soft tissue treatments. This includes massage, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and strength and conditioning training exercise protocols. Gareth also provides nutritional guidance and advice to give a holistic approach to your rehabilitation from the earliest stage through to the return of play.
“Sports therapy can be for anyone,” says Gareth. “It doesn’t matter if the only exercise you do is walking to the fridge or if you run 10k daily. If you have an injury or niggle that doesn’t seem to be going away, sports therapy can help you.”
So, whether you’re hitting the courts or the golf course; sailing the Solent or beyond; pony trekking in the forest, eventing or carriage driving; running a marathon or running to the shops; cycling on or off-road; swimming the channel, pier-to-pier, or splashing about at the Lido; kicking a Can-can or pirouetting on stage, Zumba, Salsa, Ceroc or Dad-dancing; Cross-fit training or regular gym workout; bowling; rowing or any of the vast number of wonderful sports and activities available in Lymington Gareth can help you thrive in everything you do.
Sports Therapist or Physiotherapist?
There’s not a huge difference between a Sports Therapist or a Physiotherapist in terms of both being qualified to help support your recovery from injuries or aches and pains. It’s very much down to personal preference who you would rather see.
Both have very similar skill sets as both require the therapist to be educated to degree level. Each profession is able to create treatment and exercise plans specific for the individual, to complete comprehensive injury assessments, alleviate any pain issues and can also perform soft tissue treatments. This includes massage, manual therapy, electrotherapy, and strength and conditioning training exercise protocols.
A Sports Therapist is trained primarily in musculoskeletal conditions, whereas a Physiotherapist’s knowledge touches more on Cardiac, Neurological, and Respiratory problems, but physiotherapists’ work also contains some musculoskeletal and rehabilitation work. Physiotherapists get people back to safely completing day-to-day tasks, whereas a Sports Therapist’s prerogative is to get people back to their pre-injury level of activity and fitness level, and beyond.
