Chinese Medicine is based on an ancient text called the Neijing Suwen – it is recognised that this was written across many years but the main text referred to today dates from the second and first centuries BCE.
So how is this relevant today? The Neijing describes the basis of Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, and concepts we still use particularly for diagnosis and in choosing how to address symptoms.

How Acupuncture Works: Balancing the Body for Natural Healing
Acupuncture is based on the idea that your body functions best when everything is in balance—rest and activity, warmth and coolness, movement, and stillness. When this natural balance is disrupted, whether by stress, illness, lifestyle, or injury, it can show up as pain, fatigue, anxiety, digestive issues, or other symptoms. Acupuncture works by helping to gently guide your body back into a healthier, more comfortable state.
Rather than addressing just the symptom, acupuncture looks at what might be out of sync in the bigger picture. By using very fine needles at specific points, we encourage the body’s natural self-regulating processes—supporting healing, reducing inflammation, calming the nervous system, and improving circulation.
Whilst this approach has been developed and refined over thousands of years, it is increasingly understood in modern terms too—especially in how it affects the nervous system, circulation, and stress response. People often feel more balanced, calmer, and more in tune with their body after.

Why Choose Acupuncture at Our Lymington Clinic?
At the clinic we see a wide range of specific conditions such as migraine, hay fever, period pain and menopausal symptoms. Although these are described in Western Medicine, we will address the symptoms and diagnose from the perspective of Chinese Medicine. Also, we can address conditions which may have a wide range of symptoms such as Long Covid – the effect of this varies from person to person.
Some people come to us on a regular basis as they find that acupuncture keeps their body in balance and so keeps them healthy.
If you are interested in acupuncture and would like to find out more then please contact Amanda Caspari our acupuncturist on 07876 343821 or the clinic itself. We offer free 15-minute consultations to help you decide if acupuncture is right for you.
